Rodrigo Renderos passed away while trying to flee gang violence in El Salvador. Rodrigo was an extremely intelligent, gentle young man who had been targeted precisely because he had a bright future. He had his laptop stolen twice, had been assaulted on the streets and his life threatened all while he was excelling at the top university in El Salvador.
Faced with few options, Rodrigo left his home country and attempted to travel to the United States to be united with his mom and siblings. As he travelled up through Guatemala, Mexico, and into Texas, he protected official documents from his university and local authorities that certified is need for asylum.
But in Texas, the hard journey finally wore Rodrigo down. Dehydrated, disoriented and disheartened, Rodrigo passed away on a ranch, 1 mile away from help. Since his passing, his remains have been at the Webb County medical examiner's office since 2019. The process of returning him to his family has been slowed by the pandemic. But now local government is able to release his remains to his mom, Indira, and Rodrigo can go home to El Salvador to finally be at peace.
Rodrigo's mom, Indira, is one of the kindest spirits and a devoted wife and mother. She works 15 hours a day, 7 days a week to support her family. Her resources are limited and she desperately needs help in making funeral arrangements for her son.
In this time of so much division, please join our community and support Indira in burying her son. Your donations will go to the costs of flying his remains to El Salvador, covering the costs of the funeral home, and his burial.
Indira has suffered for the last year and a half, hoping that her son might still be alive and has been unable to find closure on this case. Your support will further her healing process.
Thank you for your generosity and your empathy for a mom suffering one of the worst pains imaginable.
With Love,
Rafael and Monica Larraenza, Vinny DeLuca and Dolores Delgado, and Indira Renderos
