Aloha! My son, Rafael Sifuentes, will now be a Sophomore at Stanford University for the 2020-21 school year. Rafael won a full-ride scholarship last year that covers his room and board on campus. Due to COVID, campus closed in March and he was evacuated home to Kaua`i. Now Rafael needs help getting back to school at Stanford. He has been accepted and approved for a dorm room on campus (while attending classes online) ... and classes start this Friday! :-0
This photo is from Rafael's high school graduation, with his dad.
Our island home, Kaua`i, HI, has been "shut down" so to speak, since COVID and I have been out of work. (I am an Event Bartender for Weddings, and I clean vacation rentals; neither industry has been operational since March.) Meanwhile, all 3 of my kids are home; and Rafael has been sharing a room with his brother. I want to get him back to Stanford campus, so he can continue his education in the environment best suited for him to do so.
Rafael on Oahu looking into MIT
Rafael is pursuing a double major in Mathematics and Physics with a concentration in Theoretical Physics. He is scheduled for the following classes this semester:
Groups and Rings
Mechanics and Special Relativity
Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory
Theory of Probability
Tools for a Meaningful Life (yay - lol!)
Rafael, looking like Jimmy Neutron (lol)
I found a direct flight (he cannot purchase a flight with a layover on Oahu due to quarantine) on September 10 for $600. That would enable a return flight for him when the spring semester ends in March.
Round trip ticket $600
Uber $40 from airport to campus
$200 food (for appx 2 weeks until the meal card from his scholarship activates)
$40 for laundry items and toiletries
Total $880
We have 5 days to get him to campus for the 2-hour time slot he has scheduled to move into his dorm room. I am so proud of my son, I want the best for him ... but more than I can provide for him on my own. They say it "takes a village" to raise a child. Will you please lend a hand as part of the village to empower Rafael's education?
Thank you so much!
Mahalo!
