Help Send Quality Books to Poor Kids in Liberia

SINCE THE LIBERIAN CIVIL WAR ENDED, ITS ECONOMY HAS SUFFERED DEPRESSION. NOW, WITH THE EFFECTS OF EBOLA IN 2014, AND RECENTLY COVID-19, POVERTY (people living on less than $1.25 a day) HAS INCREASED TO 84% AND ADVERSELY AFFECTS POOR CHILDREN’S ACCESS TO EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.

Therefore, there is an urgent need for academic books and reading materials, especially in the language arts for poor children at elementary schools in Liberia. More than 600 elementary schools across Liberia urgently need new quality children’s books and other educational supplies this upcoming school year.

A book that has been reviewed by the Center for Excellence for Curriculum Development and Textbook Research (Ministry of Education, Liberia) and officially adopted for national dissemination is Alliterative Animals: A to Z. However, due to limited funding, inflation, and disease burdens of COVID-19, the government's budget is strained. THEREFORE THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION HAS NOT ALLOCATED THE NEEDED FUNDS OR REVENUE TO PURCHASE THE BOOK FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR. NOTWITHSTANDING, A FEW COPIES OF THE BOOK WERE PROVIDED TO KIDS IN GANTA AND MONROVIA. THEY LOVE IT AND FIGHT FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO READ THEM.

This fundraising project aims to send at least 15,000 copies of the book to Monrovia, Liberia, and to distribute them in each of the 15 counties of Liberia to poor children in elementary schools in Liberia, West Africa. Your support will most assuredly build strong literacy, promote a love of language development, actively support learning, and ultimately help these children become better learners. With excellent literacy skills and quality education, they will eventually escape poverty to become the next generation ready to build a better Liberian nation.

The goal is to raise at least $290,000.00 to purchase 15,000 copies of the book and other educational supplies, if possible, and to cover the shipping and distribution costs.
