I’m a dedicated educator at Moose Lake High School with 16 years of teaching experience and a passion for bringing history to life for students. I have served as the History Club advisor and have spent the past 10 years helping students grow through the National History Day program as both an advisor and competition chaperone.

This year, more than 19,000 students participated in Minnesota History Day, with approximately 1,100 advancing to the state competition. All seven of Moose Lake's competitors made it to the state competition and 6 of them advanced to awards! For the first time in 12 years, two of our freshmen have advanced to the national competition in Washington, D.C. Maya and Addi earned this achievement with their group documentary, “The Spark That Ignited a Nation: How the Soweto Uprising Inspired a Rousing Reaction That Reformed the Apartheid Government.”

In order for the two students and myself to attend the national competition, we are continuing our fundraising efforts. Unfortunately, previous fundraising attempts have come up short, and we are still seeking approximately $2,000 to make the trip possible. This competition is an incredible experience and a unique opportunity for students, as they will meet and collaborate with students from across the United States and around the world while staying at the University of Maryland. Throughout the week, students participate in educational activities in Washington, D.C., while also presenting the project they have worked on all year.
