On the evening of February 18, my father, Jaibe Sivadel, known to his family as JB, succumbed to complications of Covid-19.
My father’s was a big presence. It literally filled a room whenever he entered it. But behind that wide and welcoming smile, ever on the verge of exploding into his big laugh, there lived a man of complexities. Open and private, loquacious and solemn, both a master and victim of his own outsized potentials. Although I will continue to miss him and his presence, I am comforted and awed by the sheer depth and breadth of the many friendships that carried him along his winding journey. Comforted in realizing how dad belonged to all of you who knew him as their friend as much as he did me, his daughter, my siblings and my son, his grandchild.
And finally, I am comforted in knowing that dad gave his loving, uniquely authentic, pure and undiluted self to all of us until his very last breath.
Thank you all so very much.
