Hello everyone! My name is Nicholas Ortega. I am a Statistics major at UCLA currently in my final year of my undergraduate career. I was offered the incredible opportunity to conduct data science research at Stanford University this upcoming summer. The problem is the program fees amount to $6000 dollars, not including housing and food for the duration of the program, which will amount to about $2000. $8000 is a lot of money for anyone to pay in such short notice, and it is money I simply do not have as a low-income first generation college student. As a result, I am asking for your support in raising money for my trip!
A little bit more about me:
As previously mentioned, I am a Statistics major at UCLA. Some of my accomplishments throughout my undergraduate career include my experience as an Undergraduate Modeling Researcher at the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute. I also have experience as a Biostatistics Researcher at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Most recently, I attended MIDAS's Eighth Annual Conference to Increase Diversity in Mathematical Modeling and Public Health, a highly selective conference for undergraduate students hosted by Harvard University's Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics. After completing my undergraduate career, I plan to pursue a PhD in Biostatistics or Statistics with the intention of working in the biopharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
In addition to my academic accomplishments, I was also designated a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar for the 2019-2020 school year.
