Hi, my name is Carmelle Schantz, and I am the coordinator of the Maple Valley Odyssey of the Mind program. I started the program back up at MV in 2015, and since then, it has continued to grow. This year, for the first time since reinstating the program, we have a team that has qualified for the World competition! Worlds will be from May 25-28 at Iowa State University. The money we raise will go towards our tournament/facilities fees and pins, lanyards, and bracelets for the kids to have at the ceremonies. It will also help pay for the rental of a van that will be needed for transporting props.
Attending Worlds will be an amazing opportunity for these students. Through Odyssey of the Mind, students have learned teamwork and creative thinking skills. By attending Worlds, they will now have the chance to meet kids from other parts of the country, learn more about problem-solving, see how their ideas for their long-term problem compared to others, and showcase the hard work they have been doing since October. Not to mention, it will be FUN!
Your support will help get this team to Worlds, but by them being able to go, it will also influence the future of our program! We hope that with continued success each year, Maple Valley Odyssey will keep growing and be around for many years to come!
Here are some of the reasons this team loves Odyssey and why they want to go to Worlds!
"I like the creativity that's being put into our project. I want to go to Worlds because I want to see Iowa, I want to compete, and I want to win!"
"It gives me the opportunity to be creative and build things I never would have thought to build on my own. It allows me to bring out my inner comedian while writing the script."
"It really pushes me to think outside of the box and helps me learn more and make new friends too."
"I like Odyssey because it's fun and I like talking with friends and being inventive. I think Worlds will be fun and I'm proud of ourselves for going."
"I love Odyssey because I get to meet new people and do things I've never done before."
