We are M.A.K.K.A. -- Makana, Alyssa, Kendall, Kenna and Anna --
7th graders at Fox Ridge Middle School in Aurora, CO.
Our team has earned a spot to compete at the Destination Imagination Global Finals Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee! Our DI season began last fall, and we have worked for several months to complete our solution and prepare for tournament season. We have already advanced through our Regional Cherry Creek Tournament in March and the Colorado Affiliate State Tournament in April. Now we are looking forward to competing at DI Globals for the first time!
Each of us has participated in DI for 3 or 4 years, and we are so excited that this year our Fine Arts Challenge solution has earned us a spot at Global Finals! Here's what we had to do:
· Create and present a musical that includes a change in plans.
· Include music and lyrics that enhance the storytelling.
· Create and present a spectacle as part of the musical.
· Design and integrate a set change into the musical.
We have to perform all of this in 8 minutes or less, AND we had to create everything ourselves! Our team managers can guide and mentor us, but they can't help or give us ideas! We learned a lot about writing music, constructing sets and props, technical theater methods and teamwork!
Global Finals is the culminating event of every Destination Imagination season. More than 1,400 of the top-scoring DI teams from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries gather in Knoxville, Tennessee to showcase their innovative Challenge solutions. The scheduled festivities include the Destination Imagination Tournament, interactive exhibits, pin trading, skills workshops, international events and more.
Our goal is to raise $1,000 for each team member and manager, a total of $7,000 for the 7 of us. All money raised will offset the costs of:
· Round-trip travel from Denver, CO to Nashville, TN
· Airport transfers from Nashville to Knoxville
· Room and board for 5 days at the University of Tennessee
· The Innovation Expo - STEAM-based exhibits & hands-on activities
· Skills workshops & international events
