Help send Lora to Soaring Gardens

Hello!

My name is Lora Gettelfinger and I am so grateful to share part of my journey with you!

I am a photographer and video artist living in Brooklyn, NY by way of Louisville, KY, and I recently have been granted an opportunity of a lifetime; acceptance into the late Summer Residence at Soaring Gardens Artist Retreat in Laceyville, PA. Fortunately, my stay will be covered by the Ora Lerman Charitable Trust, but, I am seeking support for other financial needs to create artistic work outside of the city in this peaceful and focused environment. 

Aside from the typical struggles that occur living in NYC, I have also faced great tragedy. In 2018 I suffered the loss of my mother followed by a bike accident and subsequent job loss due to a fractured hand. I have not had the health, finances or time to fully give myself to my craft, I believe with this opportunity I will be able to create and come back to myself. 

 During my stay at Soaring Gardens I plan to continue studies of water by exploring the Susquehanna River, forests and nearby bodies of water to build a new cohesive portfolio.  I also plan to research and archive various plant specimens with the idea of using new mediums such as watercolor paint, handmade paper and field recordings. I believe this residency will afford me the opportunity to establish peace within myself, which will then be translated into the work I plan to make. I know can accomplish set goals and establish a new equilibrium within my work if allowed the chance.


Although the grant covers housing , there is much that it does not include transportation , food, art supplies, rent, and utilities while I am away.  I know with just a little financial help from you, I could thrive! I don’t want to just ask for money though, I would like you to be a part of this journey and pass my peace on to you in the form of examples of this new body of work.
