Help Send Kimora to the CAHR Conference 2025

Donation protected
Hello everyone!

I want to take this opportunity to highlight how crucial research is in shaping the future of our world—especially for the most marginalized communities. It is equally important to amplify the voices and work of Black scholars, ensuring their research reaches the platforms where it can drive meaningful change.

Black women remain underrepresented in academic research, yet their contributions are essential to advancing social justice, healthcare equity, and policy reform. Studies show that: Research by Black women disproportionately focuses on issues affecting marginalized communities, bridging critical gaps that often go ignored in mainstream studies.

With that in mind, I’m asking for your support in helping Kimora attend an upcoming conference where she has been invited to present her groundbreaking research. Here is her story:

Meet Kimora

Hi, my name is Kimora! I’m a 25-year-old graduate from York University with a degree in Criminology, and I’m currently pursuing my Paralegal certification at Oakland University. I’m honored to have been accepted to present at the CAHR Conference for HIV/AIDS 2025 in Halifax.

My research, “Gender Minorities and HIV: Legal Challenges in the Prison System,” explores the disproportionately high rates of HIV/AIDS among incarcerated populations—particularly affecting male and Indigenous inmates. These communities often face significant barriers to healthcare and access to resources. My goal is to shed light on these legal and systemic challenges, advocating for improved policies and interventions.

How You Can Help

To attend and present at this conference, I need financial support to cover the following expenses:

- Conference Registration (Early Researcher Rate): $375
- Hotel Accommodation (Early Discount Rate, 5 Nights): $1,155 ($231/night)
- Flight Costs: $350–$400
- Meals & Daily Expenses: $400
- Total Needed: Approximately $2,330

This is the largest conference I’ve ever been invited to, and this opportunity will allow me to share my work with professionals, researchers, and policymakers who can help drive real change in our prison systems. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help make a difference.

By supporting this effort, you’re not only investing in me, but in the broader mission of uplifting Black women in research and ensuring that critical issues affecting marginalized communities receive the attention they deserve.

Thank you so much for your support and for believing in the power of research to create a more just and equitable world!

With gratitude,
Kimora
