My name is Kayla Holdgreve - I am a photographer and archivist located in the Bay Area, California. I have the opportunity to deepen my artistic practice and research by participating in a week long residency with Archival Bootcamp in Valencian, Spain. I would gain skills and knowledge around community memory work, how various artists access and use archives, and strengthen my artist community.
The residency takes place July 20 - July 25, 2026.
• About the residency •
Founded in 2024, the residency mixes individual and collective work, theoretical and practical approaches. An affective creative community engaged with critical memory, that sustains other projects as it takes the risk of unknowing its own. It’s an opportunity to explore, create and stimulate artistic-research through a transdisciplinary creative process.

• Location •
The residency will take place in an off-grid area, at the old mill of Masía La Toba, located in Cortes de Arenoso, in the Valencian Community, Spain.
• My goals for the Residency •
I would like to deepen my understanding and practice with community memory work. I’ll be focusing on my writing specific to my creative ideas and record keeping. I am also interested in leading discussions around how other artists access and utilize various archives.
