Greetings family and friends,

A couple of months ago I applied to a program described to be a "once in a lifetime opportunity". Understanding this progam was open to the WORLD and only TWO people would be selected, I knew the likelihood of me being one were almost as likely as me winning the lottery.

On Sunday, January 1, 2017 I was informed I was selected to participate in the Okinawan Karate Nerd Programme! This means relocating to JAPAN and trainining with some of the greatest Masters of all time for 6-12 months beginning March 1st.  What a great way to start the new year, right?!

I am 1 of 9 people selected to participate ( they extended an invite to 7 other people who they couldn't say no to) in what will surely be a life-changing experience, as I will embark on a journey to what is known to be the Birthplace of Karate

Financially, this dream will not be able to come true without the help from the masses. If you know me or have trained with me on the dojo floor, you know how much karate is a part of my life and how much pride I take in GIVING BACK.

This is not a vacation. Leaving my comfort zone, job, family/friends, and financial security behind is TERRIFYING. The program is described to be rigorous and will require every bit of of effort I have in me. I will be responsible for training daily, finding employment, housing, and volunteering at mulitple karate-related events, amongst other responsibilities during my time in Japan.

Initially when I applied, I didn't have myself in mind. Instead I was thinking of a young lady who will be graduating college May 2017. She is currently learning to navigate her way through her own karate journey and has trusted me as her mentor.  Her trust in me alone, keeps me going.

I am constantly teaching my students the importance of seeking perfection of character, never become complacent, and continue to learn and grow.

In order for them to fully grasp that concept, I also need to live up to this standard. There are many pros and cons that I continue to weigh out. All I can really think about is how much knowledge I will be able to share with those I share the dojo floor with, how many lives I can inspire, and hope in the coming years I can also encourage someone else in my position to JUST GO!

Time is tight! I need to be in Okinawa by March 1st!The money donated will be used to fund my travel roundtrip as well renewal VISA trip( I will have to leave Okinawa and return after 90 days to renew my VISA in Tokyo), housing, and survival.

Any little bit is a lot-bit to me and will help me greatly. I have given back to my dojo families as much as I can and continue to do so daily. For example, along with teaching/coaching/mentoring daily, I took the initiative to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at two dojos I teach/train at regularly this past October ( hence why I am wearing a pink belt in my picture).

I am described to be an inspiration to children, women, and men in and outside of karate. I do not want to let anyone down and hope to create life-lasting relationships in Okinawa that allow others I know the same opportunity to train in the years to come as well.

Please help me get to the next chapter of my journey. Please share my campaign and I will not disappoint.

Sincerely,

Karrin Pitt
