We are a team of sixth-graders from Kanata, Ontario and we participate in Destination Imagination—an educational program that helps us learn valuable skills like creative and critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork through different STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Challenges.
This year our team competed in the Fine Arts Challenge that challenged us to creatively present the history of a game with technology, research, and theater art skills. Our group challenge presented the game of chess from two different perspectives, as girls playing with grandmother’s mysterious old chess set are swept into the game and must solve a series of puzzles to escape. The judges were very impressed as we went above and beyond in the technical elements: using Ozobots, micro:bits, coding, use of a green screen, and creating invisible ink and a handmade blacklight to decode some of the many clues presented to the characters.
We are excited to be the top-scoring Destination Imagination team at our level in Ontario and to have the opportunity to present our Challenge solution at Global Finals—an international academic competition where we will compete against teams in our Challenge from around the globe. This year, Global Finals will take place in Kansas City, Missouri. Teams that earn the opportunity to attend Global Finals are responsible for their own fundraising to cover their costs. Because getting to the competition is expensive, our team would appreciate your support of our Global Finals fundraising efforts.
Thank you for supporting us in this adventure!
