Help Send Josh to the Tin House Writing Workshop

Hey everyone,
I’ve been lucky enough to be accepted into the Tin House Summer Writing Workshop this July. Tin House is a prominent book publisher and literary magazine that holds a week-long writing workshop throughout various times in the year in which writers from all backgrounds and genres come together to share their work, learn from established writers, and build their literary community. This summer workshop is held at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.
While similar to workshops I’ve taken in school, I find the “off-campus” writing retreat to be a powerful and awe-inspiring experience altogether different than school. Spending time away from one’s regular routine with writers and creators from across genres, generations, and backgrounds was one of the most fruitful experiences of my early poetic life. Another big reason is that one of the writers who I have the chance to work with, Kaveh Akbar, has written extensively about his recovery from drugs and alcohol. He was a major reason in why I wanted to attend Tin House this year, as my own recovery is a topic I explore most often in my writing.
Unfortunately, I did not receive one of the few scholarships Tin House gives out to a select number of workshop attendees. This is why I’m asking for donations to help me cover the cost of tuition, room & board, and my flight.
The breakdown of cost is like this:
Tuition - $1600
Room & board - $300
Flight - $500-600
I’m setting my goal at the total amount of these costs because while I will be trying to find extra jobs this summer to try and save up, this is of course never certain. A donation of any amount will help tremendously and I thank you in advance for your support and energy.
