When the pandemic hit Costa Rica, the schools closed and students were supposed to continue with online classes. Jeremmy Mairena is 11 years old and lives in an area of Costa Rica where there is neither internet nor cell service! He previously attended a bilingual school on a scholarship because his mother worked as a cleaning person at the school. When the school went “online” she lost her job and Jeremmy lost his funding, forcing him to attend the public school which takes place one day a week for three hours. Jeremmy’s family are immigrants from Nicaragua and want a better life for their children. He is a smart kid who was on track to do great things in life - his dream is to become a chef in a big city one day! Three hours of school per week is not an education, especially when he has no internet access to attend online schooling. The yearly cost of tuition at Jeremy’s former bilingual school (www.futuro-verde.org) is $4600. The school, Futuro Verde or Green Future, is an IB accredited school located on the Nicoya Peninsula in the small village of Cóbano. The school also requires an enrollment fee of approximately $720, which will be paid by Jeremmy’s family. If you are looking for an opportunity to help someone and make a real difference in a child’s life, this is your chance! Please donate what you can to help send Jeremmy back to school - thank you!
