Help Send Danny to Viable Paradise!
Hello!
My name is Danny, and I am a writer and freelance editor. This summer, I was accepted into Viable Paradise for its 22nd class. This is a week-long writing retreat that happens at the end of October in beautiful Martha's Vineyard. Classes will be taught by bestselling writers and editors who will allow me to take my craft to the next level. My acceptance is an honor-- and I was fortunate enough to receive one of the Writers of Color Scholarships, which will pay for part of my tuition, as well as my travel back and forth.
That said, I still need to gather the rest of the funds for the retreat. This includes:
- One-half of the Tuition. As stated above, half of tuition is covered by the scholarship, but I still need to have the rest by the middle of August.
- Room and Board. While there are special Viable Paradise rates for housing, it's still Martha's Vineyard! I already have an amazing roommate, which mitigates the cost, but I do have to carry my own weight! While the retreat isn't until October, I will still need to deal with the down payment, etc, before that.
- Groceries/Etc. This is various food costs associated with the week.
Every dollar helps make this retreat more of a reality for me, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Viable Paradise boasts alumni such as N.K. Jemisin and Yoon Ha Lee, as well as a strong community that continuously supports one another long after their classes are done. I know that participation will be life-changing, both personally and professionally.

I'm a queer black writer raised in Harlem and currently residing in the Bronx. I write and edit under the pseudonym Danny Lore (although considering my name is Danielle, it's not much of a pseudonym :D ). I am also an acquiring editor at FIYAH. I primarily write speculative fiction, with a focus on blackness and hood contemporary fantasy. My work has been published in FIYAH and EFNIKS magazine, and I am the editor of Black Mask Comics' The Wilds (w: Vita Ayala, a: Emily Pearson).
