Hi, my name is Claribella, and I’ve been accepted into a study abroad program in São Paulo, Brazil called “The World Runs on Processes.” As a first-gen American student studying International Affairs with a focus on Latin America and global development, this opportunity would allow for full immersion into experiences that my textbooks simply cannot provide. As an individual with a great interest in language, culture, policy, and development, I’m on a mission to take my education beyond borders! I’m raising $4,050 to cover program fees, airfare, and housing fees. Any support means the world to me.
While I applied for external scholarships such as the Gilman Scholarship, I was not selected. Although this was disappointing, I am still committed to pursuing this opportunity, as it will meaningfully contribute to my academic and personal development.
Obrigada!

Why Brazil?
Brazil has always fascinated me not only for its vibrant cultural landscape, but for its political evolution, rich biodiversity, linguistic history, and critical role on the world stage. From the rhythmic sounds of samba which echo through the favelas and ruas, the dynamic streets of São Paulo, the Amazon rainforest, and the country’s evolving democracy, Brazil is a place where art, culture, politics, and global development intersect in interesting ways. As someone who loves languages, music, and international affairs, I find Brazil offers the perfect environment to deepen these academic pursuits. The program “The World Runs on Processes,” based in São Paulo, Brazil, aims to explore the various economic, environmental, political, and cultural processes within the context of Brazil.
Fun fact about me: I currently speak English, Spanish, elementary Arabic, and intermediate Brazilian Portuguese, and I am working toward becoming a fully fledged polyglot. Studying in Brazil would give me the opportunity to build upon my current language skills – completely immersing myself in conversations with locals and professionals, all while gaining firsthand insight into the social, political, environmental, and economic systems I’ve studied in the classroom.
This program would allow me to:
- Engage with local communities and professionals. We will visit museums, the Guarani people (an indigenous group in São Paulo), and Guaruja (a municipality in São Paulo that is praised for its efforts towards sustainability and Urban development).
- Enhance my proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese through daily interaction with locals, scholars, and industry experts.
- Explore sustainability practices and environmental issues firsthand on the Ilha dos Arvoredos. This location is noted for its Green Key Certification (which recognizes its commitment to ecological sustainability and social responsibility).
- Build global connections that would help guide my career.
- Grow as an interpreter, a future diplomat/ advocate, and an international professional.
When? January 4th - 22nd
Program - Offered by Lafayette College: The world runs on processes (São Paulo, Brazil )
Goal: $4,050 - Your support will help cover the full cost of my study abroad that I’m not able to finance on my own.
Your support would be a meaningful investment in my growth. Whether you donate or share this GoFundMe, any support is genuinely appreciated. Thank you for helping me take this next step toward becoming a globally engaged scholar and a citizen of the world!
