Help Lachin To Send Butterfly To Film Festivals

Hello, my name is Lachin Kerbabaeva. I'm a writer, director, and editor of the short film Butterfly. This project is my junior film, which I created with my classmates as part of a film course at Ringling College of Art and Design in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in filmmaking. Butterfly tells the story of a young Mia who unravels her deepest feelings of hatred for her mother through a conversation with the therapist. It's a psychological drama that explores profound feelings of shame, loneliness, and complex family dynamics, as well as their impact on an individual.

Over a year and a half, I poured my heart and soul into this film. In my sophomore year, I wrote a script. In my junior year, I developed the project from pre-production in the fall of 2024, which was followed by 2 days set to post-production in the spring, which was followed by the Junior Screening and Film Awards.

At the end of my junior year, I not only finished this film that was so close to my heart but also received fantastic feedback after a Junior Screening from students, friends, parents, and professors. Following all this success, I was very honored to receive two awards for Butterfly at the Ringling Film Awards 2025: Best Narrative Junior Film and Best Junior Editing. I'm forever grateful to everyone who contributed to this project, including my hardworking classmates who worked as a crew, my talented cast who traveled across the states to bring my vision to life, the location owners who provided their spaces for free, and the professors who showed their support and involvement throughout the process.
