Help Send Boyd to an Elite Diabetes Camp for Young Athlete
Donation protected
Hi, we’re Amanda and Ryan, and we’re the proud parents of an incredible soon-to-be 12-year-old boy named Boyd—a smart, kind, and determined young athlete living with Type 1 Diabetes.
And if you know Boyd, you know he always has a soccer ball at his feet—soccer is his absolute favourite thing to do. ⚽️
Boyd was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on July 9, 2021—Managing this condition isn’t easy—it’s a 24/7 job, with no breaks—especially tough for a kid who just wants to play like everyone else.
But through it all, Boyd continues to thrive on the soccer turf and give his all as an athlete and as a young kid carrying grown-up responsibilities.
What most people don’t realize is just how much planning goes into every single practice and game.
Boyd’s soccer nights start hours earlier than when we actually arrive at the turf—with careful thought around what he eats, when he eats, how much insulin he needs, and how his body might respond to soccer that night.
It's all part of a delicate routine to help him feel strong and steady on the field—while lowering the risk of activity-induced low blood sugar.
Managing that balance between food, insulin, and movement is incredibly complex, and it’s something we quietly navigate behind the scenes so Boyd can do what he loves.
As he grows and will one day be at practices on his own, this camp is an incredible opportunity for him to take more ownership of that process—to learn how to fuel his body, train safely, and manage his diabetes with confidence in high-energy, athletic settings.
It’s not easy for a child to understand or accept all of this, but we’ve seen a growing maturity in Boyd—a deepening awareness of his body and what it needs—and we believe this is the perfect moment for him to keep building on that growth.
We’re thrilled to share that Boyd has been awarded a full scholarship ($2,750 USD!) to attend Diabetes Training Camp-Teen Boot Camp this August in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at Spooky Nook Sports Complex.
The scholarship generously covers camp tuition, three nights of hotel accommodation, and meals during the camp.
About the Program:
The Diabetes Training Camp Teen Boot Camp is a one-of-a-kind program created specifically for young athletes living with Type 1 Diabetes. Led by Dr. Matthew Corcoran, a nationally recognized endocrinologist and sports medicine expert, this camp brings together top medical professionals, athletic coaches, and mental skills specialists to teach teens how to safely and confidently manage diabetes while staying active in competitive sports. Campers gain hands-on experience with fueling, insulin strategies, performance training, and mindset coaching—all in a supportive environment surrounded by peers who truly understand the challenges of living and competing with T1D. It’s not just a camp—it’s a chance to build lifelong skills, friendships, and confidence.

We are responsible for the remaining travel-related expenses, including:
Flights from New Brunswick to Pennsylvania
Two additional hotel nights will be needed due to flight times for Boyd and myself.
Meals during those additional days
Transportation while in the U.S.
We estimate the total cost at approximately $3,300 CAD.
If you can help send Boyd to this training camp—or even just share this fundraiser—we would be beyond grateful.
We’ll also be collecting recyclables to help with travel costs. If you’re local and would like to contribute that way, please feel free to reach out.
Every bit of support brings Boyd one step closer to a life-changing experience that will support his health, his mindset, and his future.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting Boyd.
With gratitude,
Amanda, Ryan & Boyd
