Help Amiera Make Her Mark on the World Stage

At just 20 years old, Amiera is about to take on the biggest challenge of her swimming career.

In November 2026, Amiera will travel to Portugal to compete at the World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships, where she will proudly represent Canada alongside 12 of her Canadian Down Syndrome Swimming teammates.

But getting there takes more than hard work in the pool.

The Canadian Down Syndrome Swimming Association doesn’t receive any kind of government support or corporate sponsorship. Each family is responsible for their athlete’s costs so we are raising $15,000 to help cover the costs of this incredible 15-day journey ~ including competition entry fees, coaching expenses, flights and transportation, accommodation, meals, and other travel costs.

A little history:
Amiera’s journey started before she could even walk.
Amiera has been in the water since she was just five months old. She began competing at only six years old, and swimming has been a huge part of her life ever since.

Over the years, she has worked incredibly hard, competing at the highest levels and earning 8 medals at the 2022 World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships as a junior swimmer,

5 medals at the 2025 British National Championships and most recently another 5 medals at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games 2026 held in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Amiera is also a current Americas record holder in the women’s 400m Individual Medley (400m IM) in both long course and short course for senior female swimmers with Down syndrome.

And now, she is ready for her next challenge.

From National Champion to Senior International Competitor

Portugal 2026 will be especially meaningful because it will be Amiera’s first time competing at the World Championships as a senior swimmer.

She has spent years building toward this moment — countless hours in the pool, early mornings, long practices, competitions, setbacks, celebrations, and more laps than we could ever count.

Now she has the opportunity to stand behind the blocks wearing CANADA across her back.

And we want to help her get there.

Every Donation Helps

Our goal is to raise $15,000.

That money will help cover:

• ✈️ Flights and transportation
• ‍Competition and entry fees
• Coaching and team expenses
• Accommodation for the 15 day trip
• Meals and daily travel expenses
• Other costs associated with representing Canada overseas

Whether you can donate $10, $25, $50, $100, or more, every contribution brings Amiera one step closer to Portugal.

And if you aren’t able to donate, sharing her story is just as valuable.

Help Us Get Amiera to the Starting Block

For Amiera, this isn’t simply a trip.

It’s the opportunity to represent her country.

It’s the chance to compete against some of the best swimmers in the world.

It’s the next chapter in a swimming journey that began when she was only five months old.

And it’s a chance to show what is possible when determination, opportunity, family, teammates, coaches, and a whole community come together.

Please help us get Amiera to Portugal.

Help us put CANADA behind her name.

Help us get her to the blocks.

Help us cheer her on from across the ocean.

‍♀️ Every lap has brought her here. Now let’s help her take the next one.

Goal: $15,000
