Help Send Aberltine to University — A Future Nurse

This summer, one of our incredible students, Aberltine, is celebrating a remarkable achievement: she has just completed Upper Sixth Form — the equivalent of Year 13 in the UK.

In Cameroon, where access to education beyond primary school is limited for many young people, this is no small milestone. Aberltine’s story is one of strength, determination, and hope against the odds.

“I am very happy about the idea of going to university,” she told us. “Because I never knew it could come true. It’s really amazing that the dream is becoming real, and I cannot wait to enroll.”

We first met Aberltine in March 2024, when she was 19 years old. She lives in Belo, Cameroon, with her grandmother and two sisters. Her grandmother, a local farmer, has raised the family — but as her health has declined, it’s become harder to continue.

Aberltine was born to a single mother and has faced countless barriers to education, especially during the ongoing Anglophone Crisis, which forced the closure of schools in her area and displaced many families.

“The crisis in Cameroon started in 2016... people were being killed, houses were being burned, and children were being raped,” Aberltine said in her interview. “We were forced to run into the bushes, and sometimes we even ran into hospitals to hide.”

Despite the disruption, Aberltine remained committed to her studies. She dropped out, re-enrolled, and nearly had to leave school again due to exam fees. We were lucky to receive generous donations from supporters, and then secured a long-term sponsor for Aberltine, to cover her costs and help her complete her final years of school.

Now, she stands on the edge of a dream she’s been holding for years: to become a nurse.

“I want to be someone who can save lives, give comfort to the sick, and even support them,” she said. “And I even want to be useful to my community.”

Aberltine’s ambitions are clear — but the cost of university is a huge barrier. Her current sponsors have done so much already, but we now need additional support to fund her university journey, beginning in October 2025.

What we need to raise for one year:

  • Tuition fees: £520
  • Entrance exams and registration: £110
  • Basic equipment and learning materials: £70
Total needed: £700

Every pound raised will go directly to her education — and every supporter will receive updates on her progress throughout the year.

“I am promising you that I will not let you down. I will work hard, and make you proud.” Aberltine told us. “My dream in future is to help and assist anyone that I come across with a similar life story like mine, if I have the opportunity to do so.”

Let’s not let money be the thing that holds her back.

If you can help by donating or sharing her story, please get in touch. You’ll be helping to train a future nurse — and changing a life forever. ❤️
