Semune Suriya and his wife Kham Vega are hardworking local farmers whose life was turned upside down by two weekends of relentless storms and flooding. The first weekend, an overflowing canal next to their farmland flooded their property, forcing Semune and Kham to evacuate by paddle boat. Despite their best efforts to move everything to safety, the floodwaters rose quickly, leaving their animals stranded on the roof and their home and fields underwater.
The following weekend, while Kham and Semune were staying with friends, another powerful storm swept through and washed away everything they had left. Their car was completely submerged, and there was no time to save even the most basic necessities. The timing of these disasters could not have been worse, striking just before harvest and leaving Kham and Semune with nothing to support their family.
Now, they face the daunting task of rebuilding their life and their farm from scratch. The funds raised will help them cover immediate and urgent needs. They lost essential farming equipment like generators, weedwhackers, and tractors to the floods. They also needs cleaning supplies, fertilizer, and starter seeds to begin the long process of regrowing his crops. With their car totaled and their livelihood washed away, Semune and Kham are unsure how long it will take to recover, but they remain hopeful thanks to the support of their community.
Semune says, 'Don't give up!' and is deeply grateful for everyone's help and kindness during this difficult time. Kham is grateful for the support and appreciates any help you can give.
This GoFundMe was created by the volunteers from Help Maui Rise for the Storm Kōkua initiative and will directly benefit Semune and Kham and their bank information was added for them to withdraw directly.
