Hello! My name is Selma Apara and I’m entering my fourth year at Howard University. Every year I have submitted the FAFSA before the deadline, to receive my scholarships and financial aid. This year unfortunately, my mother was hospitalized and was not able to complete her section of the FAFSA by the deadline, causing me to not be able to receive my Howard Freshman Scholarship, HU Need Financial Aid Award, or my Pell Grant. Due to lack of timely communication, I found out that I could not receive these forms of aid on Monday July 28th, a few weeks before the semester begins. This puts me in the position of not being able to afford tuition, or housing for this coming year. I would appreciate your support on being able to continue my journey pursuing higher education, a privilege that many from my background never get to experience.
