My name is Selena, and I am a first-generation college student from an immigrant family. Back in 2015, I attended community college, but I was unable to complete my studies because of my family’s financial struggles. Staying focused on school was difficult when we were always worried about making ends meet. Despite these challenges, I never lost my dream of getting an education and building a better future for myself and my family.
Now, I have been accepted to LaGuardia Community College to pursue a degree in radiology. However, there is one thing holding me back: I owe money to Borough of Manhattan Community College for the time I was unable to finish my studies. Because of this debt, I can’t register for classes and take the next step toward my goals. I am currently unemployed and struggling to collect the funds needed to pay off this debt. Every dollar raised will go directly to clearing this balance so I can move forward.
This support will mean so much to me. It will help me finally get the education I have always wanted and allow me to move forward in life. It has not been easy—I don’t come from a family with money, and financial insecurity has always been a challenge. I am the first of my siblings to even complete high school, so being able to continue my education would be a huge accomplishment not only for me, but for my entire family. Thank you for considering supporting my journey.
