Hi, my name is Selena, and this is honestly one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write.

Over the past year, I’ve lost three jobs because of my social media presence. What started as building a platform and connecting with people online slowly turned into something that now affects my safety, my mental health, and my ability to keep stable employment.

Every time I start a new job, people eventually recognize me online. Followers or viewers figure out where I work, post my location, and groups of people begin showing up. Instead of being able to simply go to work and do my job, I become the topic of conversation, the distraction, or the “internet girl” people want to come see in person.

This most recent situation was the breaking point for me. While I was working, a customer secretly took a picture of me and posted it on Snapchat. Soon after, multiple people started showing up to my workplace because they recognized the location. Afterward, I was called into the office and had a conversation about separating my social media from my work life. I understand professionalism completely, but at this point, the issue is bigger than that — I genuinely no longer feel safe working in public environments.

This is the third time this has happened this year.

What scares me the most is knowing how easy it is for strangers online to find my whereabouts. I’d hate for someone dangerous or obsessive to take things further one day. It’s exhausting constantly worrying whether going to work is putting me at risk.

The craziest part is… I don’t even want fame the way people assume. Music and social media started as hobbies — something fun and creative that gave me comfort and an outlet. Deep down, I would honestly rather work a normal job and live peacefully. But every time I try, my online presence follows me into my workplace and turns my life upside down again.

I’m creating this GoFundMe to help me stay afloat while I figure out my next steps safely. Donations will help with my current bills, living expenses, transportation, and possibly putting together a small tour or creative opportunities if music truly becomes my only stable option moving forward. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I have to consider turning a hobby into a full-time career simply because I can’t safely keep a regular job.
