Help Selena Get Back on Her Paws

Donation protected
Hi!
Thank you for taking the time to visit our GoFundMe page. We are reaching out to friends and family to help our beloved furry family member, Selena, whom many of you know and love!

Selena isn't just a dog; she's a cherished member of our family. Her unconditional love has been a source of comfort during our happiest moments and toughest challenges for the past 5 years.

Unfortunately, Selena recently faced a devastating accident that left her in need of immediate emergency medical attention. This past Thursday she was playing with her favorite Frisbee, and on one of her dives for it, a stick kicked up, flew in her mouth and pierced her epiglottis in the back of her throat. We didn't know at the time, but that puncture would become seriously infected, resulting in a 1.5 inch abscess just in front of her windpipe. We brought her into the vet twice in 24 hours knowing something was wrong, but they felt she was fine. Friday night, she was wheezing heavily and pacing around nervously. She had to be rushed back to the Doggy ER after her breathing became very labored. She was immediately intubated and put on a battery of steroids and antibiotics. With no improvements hours later, the doctor that was on-call concluded the obstruction was possibly a tumor and that we should consider euthanizing our 5 year old baby girl which devastated the family. The explanation was that the only option was an invasive surgery with no guarantees and for improvement. Thankfully, the next on-shift doctor who had more experience with these type of issues came up with a plan that he was confident would save her and his detailed analysis of her case convinced him that this wasn’t actually a tumor. We accepted his plan and an emergency tracheostomy was placed to allow her to breathe while they administered medicine for what was determined to be an infected abscess. She had to stay in the hospital 4 days until they felt comfortable attempting to remove the trach to check on the swelling. On day 4, Selena decided she was over it and pulled the trach out on her own (That's our crazy girl!) The Dr giggled and said she made up her mind, but the good news was she was breathing OK without it! They then did another procedure to put a scope down her throat and that former 1.5" abscess had now reduced to only 1cm! They felt comfortable with our babes coming home and we were beyond excited! She will need to be on "doggy bed rest" for the next 2 weeks as her body continues to heal and her little brother Koda is so excited to be with his sister again!

Why We Need Your Help:

We are dedicated to giving Selena the best chance at a happy, healthy life. The cost of her emergency surgery, hospitalization, and ongoing care is of course an unexpected large expense and any assistance you can give to help offset the costs would mean everything to us!

Your support will go directly towards covering Selena's medical bills, post-surgery care, and rehabilitation.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of Selena's journey towards recovery. Your kindness means the world to us, and we will keep you updated on Selena's progress.

With love and gratitude,

Selena's Family
