Aloha, I am Jordan Seguin farmer and owner of Seguin Family Farms in Waiāhole on the Island of Oahu.

Our Family Farm was recently hit by severe flooding in Waiāhole, and our family is now beginning the difficult process of cleaning up and rebuilding. Months after the Kona Lows and Weeks after Hurricane Lala, we find ourselves amidst another Hurricane (Lowell). When we think things are getting better after recovering from previous floods this year, it breaks our hearts to see all our hard work get washed away

The flood caused major damage across the property. Our water backflow system was damaged and the farm currently has no running water. Many logs, lumber, trash, rocks, debris overflowed from the Waiāhole stream and deep soft mud were scattered throughout the property. Newly planted Saba bananas were uprooted, half of our okra field was wiped out, newly planted eggplants were washed away, and sections of vegetable trellises were uprooted and knocked down.

For us, this farm is more than just a place where we grow food. It is where our family works together, where we share Filipino culture, and where we continue the values behind Buhay Probinsya — The Simple Life.

We are starting with a goal of $2,000 to help with the immediate needs of recovery, including restoring water, repairing water lines, clearing, hauling, removal of debris, repairing vegetable trellises, replacing damaged plants, machine/ equipment rental, gas and fuel costs, soil amendments and fertilizers, sand bags for future flash flooding prevention and beginning to replant the fields.

This is only the first step. We are still assessing the full extent of the damage and will continue to update everyone as recovery moves forward.
