- My mom, Julia, passed away after living in a skilled nursing facility, and our family is heartbroken and searching for answers. Julia had been bedridden since a stroke five years ago, but she was still fighting and deserved attentive, compassionate care. In her final weeks, I noticed a serious decline. She was suffering from dehydration, severe weight loss, and constant urinary tract infections. Because of her condition, she could not reach things on her own, yet her bed tray and water were often left at the end of the bed where she could not access them. In the last two weeks of her life, she could barely speak. When I raised concerns, I told the nurses there was something wrong and even the medical director expressed deep concern about the care patients were receiving. He later left the facility, saying the patients there were not being properly cared for.
Just four days after he left, Julia passed away. We are devastated, and we believe we need an autopsy to understand the truth about what happened and to determine whether negligence contributed to her death. We have been told the autopsy must be done before embalming, and the cost is out of pocket. This is an urgent expense our family was not prepared for. Julia also had a burial insurance plan, but it only covers part of the cost, and she wanted a Christian burial that will cost more than the policy provides.
Right now, our main concern is raising enough to pay for the autopsy so we can get answers and advocate for Julia. Any additional support will help us honor her burial wishes and cover the remaining funeral expenses. If you are able to donate or share this fundraiser, it would mean so much to our family during this painful and urgent time. Thank you for helping us seek truth for Julia and give her the dignity she deserves.
