Help Secure Safe Housing for Our Family
Donation protected
I've had MS since 2004. My journey with it brought me long ago to a place that severely impacted my ability to work. I've worked only part time for many years, but as you can imagine, it is now almost impossible to make it that way.
I applied for disability in 2021.... I am still waiting. I have a hearing this summer which may be the one where I finally get approved- it looks more likely than ever.
In the meantime, I'm still limited to part time work while rents in Chicago have doubled and tripled while I was in the same cheap apartment for almost 6 years... I had no idea what was in store. (And many people don't know yet- this year has been shocking for many)
The apartment I've lived in for almost 6 years was not a legal unit and not up to code (I didn't know until recently,) and it flooded on 2022, taking with it nearly all the artwork I've made in 30+ years, along with so much more.
And now it's time to move.
Chicago's currently aggressively competitive rental market is shocking. After many years in apartments like mine, we are trying to get into stable housing. We need first and last month's rent and a deposit to secure safe and stable housing for our little family. We are crossing our fingers that we may be approved for a place as early as this weekend, but will need to move quickly to provide deposits and will need a reserve for first and last month's rent.
I can't simply work more to try to increase income.
One month rent is $1550 and we want to be able to either offer last month's rent or put a deposit down to secure an apartment.
We are currently staying with friends while we are searching.
We are really weary but very excited that we may finally have stable, safe housing.
Any amount will help us make this happen.
Thank you so much for reading my story and for any help! I appreciate you
