Posting for my partner because he's stubborn and won't admit it

At last, as the mechanics foretold, the transmission has died. I recently put $2800+ into him to get him roadworthy before I leave for university, as the car has been having some hiccups. Unfortunately, even with a transmission fix, the car has other issues that need to be addressed. I'm not one to ask for handouts but I can admit I need some help to get back on my feet. I'm just asking for help to find some reliable wheels, at least just a down payment, without burning through the savings I have for school. I don't want to do any more loans, as my paychecks would not be enough with everything factored in. I work full-time as a manager while preparing for school, and I feel the pressure and stress of life coming in.

I obtained my Associate's degree in Biology, and want to get my Bachelor's degree with no more hold backs but life is throwing lemons and curve balls. I am pursuing molecular and cellular biology and having to drop upwards of $13K on tuition, after scholarships and loans, just to start my first semester is stressful. Especially when juggling rent, with places requiring a down deposit and advances before moving in. I haven't even factored in school supplies yet.
