Help Secure Prosthetic Limbs and Reunite My Syrian Family

Hello, my name is William Zain, and I have been a permanent resident of Canada for two years. I need your urgent help to support my displaced Syrian family, who are currently stuck in the United Arab Emirates with no clear way forward.

My family includes my mother, father, and two brothers. They fled Syria because of the danger and persecution. We are from the Druze minority, which has faced great suffering during the Syrian war By all parties of the conflict. In 2017, my father was kidnapped and tortured by ISIS. He spent over seven months in a hospital due to the severe torture he endured and has suffered from numerous health issues Doctors were able to save his hands with great difficulty ever since. My family sold nearly all their possessions to secure his release., but he lost both of his legs.

A Family Trapped in an Impossible Situation

After losing all safe options and unable to stay in Syria, my family moved to the UAE, the only country they could escape to. But their situation has only gotten worse:

• My younger brother cannot afford to study.

• My older brother, 18, works low-paying, temporary jobs just to pay for rent.

• My mother, a qualified nurse, can’t work due to visa restrictions.

• The UNHCR in the UAE doesn’t help refugees because the UAE has not signed the Refugee Convention, leaving my family without legal support or protection.

The lack of refugee rights in the UAE has made things even harder—they can’t work, stay permanently, or resettle anywhere else.

Why This Campaign Matters

The UAE has become a prison for my family. They can’t stay, leave, or live with dignity. Without help, they risk homelessness and hopelessness.

This campaign will help:

Provide prosthetic limbs for my father and help him recover, giving him some independence.

Support my family while we search for a safe place to resettle.

Pay for basic living costs (rent, food, medical needs).

I am a full-time student in Canada and can’t afford anymore to support my family on my own. I’ve tried everything—every Canadian organization I contacted sent me back to the UNHCR, leaving us stuck in a hopeless loop.
