Hi!
I'm trying to raise money to pay off some debt and save money for retirement.
I was to receive money from a family trust when my father died in December of 2018. Unfortunately, the funds for his children are being withheld. Previous attempts by other family members to reach a settlement have been unsuccessful. At this point there's not much I can do on my own, if anything; further legal action would be costly and its outcome uncertain.
Several years ago, I chose a major career change and began working in social services, helping the homeless community in Portland, Oregon find safe, stable housing and shelter. I enjoy my job, and it is very much in line with my spiritual practice. It pays my rent, but as you can probably guess it isn't exactly lucrative. As I enter old age as a single male, I worry about having money for retirement, including savings for medical care.
My tastes aren't extravagant. I'm mostly a homebody who enjoys "frugal gourmet" cooking, playing traditional folk music on bagpipes and accordion, staying fit through fencing, and caring for my rescued pigeons and cats.
Right now, I have 11K of debt most of which was for automobile repairs and other related expenses. I also anticipate that I will have to buy another car in the future.
If I can eliminate that debt, I can start to save money. Additional funding can get me ahead of just paying off the debt but actually build savings.
