Hi my name is Liera Dimarucut. If anyone knows me and my family, you probably know my lovely twin brothers Jadon and Sebastian. Most of you know of what recent events have happened starting the lovely holidays, but for those of you who don't I have been asked to tell his story.
Sebastian is such a bubbly, fun, loving person. He's very athletic, playing sports like basketball, soccer, football, etc. You name it, he'll play it. He never fails to make you laugh and smile with his wit.
Now a few weeks ago things took a small turn, for what we didn't realize would be a change. My brother Jadon had noticed Sebastian wouldn't wake up to alarms, you had to wake him up or he wouldn't be up, and he would wake up a little lost and confused with no recollection of what happened within that time. With not thinking anything of it, we all assumed it was some kind of sleep disorder or a form of somnambulism (sleepwalking).
This went on for a week or so before things took a turn very fast. My mother and I decided to take him to an urgent care center to see if maybe we could get some tests done or point us in a specific direction. We get to his apartment at noon for his appointment at 130 PM. I knew it would take us, from what Jadon had said, 10-15 minutes to get him to be "normal". To be aware, communicating, and not lost and confused. This took 45 minutes and even when we got to the doctors office he was still confused for a bit, of course until the doctor came in. By confused I mean I had to remind him who I was, who my mother was, our names, where we were, where we were going. A lot of repeating of things that he's known for 20 years. This was unusual too as it took so long for him to be back to his "normal" self.
So we went back and forth places within that weekend, going from urgent care in Edmond, to hospital in Edmond for quick testing. Then, getting sent back home from normal tests. Him sleeping for 20 hours without getting up for food, for water, or going to the bathroom; going back to the hospital but this time in Enid, which was easier for my mom to be able to go see him back and forth from work. After all tests came back normal and their inability to do other testing they wanted to do, due to machine maintenance, specialist availability, etc. we got sent back to a hospital in OKC where they had the machines needed and any specialist we needed over the weekend.
So with that being said, after a week of going back and forth with doctors and hospitals, all tests coming back normal, and just absolute patience, we have finally found the culprit. When he got admitted to OKC, his blood sugar was a 22. If anyone knows blood sugar, that number is absolutely life threatening. Even after giving him sugar water and medication through his IV, his blood sugar would not stabilize.
With that being said, Sebastian is having surgery December 3rd to get a small tumor taken out of his pancreas. With this tumor and the blood sugar problem, it did cause a little bit of brain damage. I wish I knew more details on that, but I sadly was working when this information was let out.
We are all very grateful for your lovely gifts, prayers, and messages. It's so nice seeing all the support that you guys have shown and we are so happy to see all the support we have. But here's the hardest part of it all. Medical bills.
Money is always something that is hard to talk about or ask for. And every donation really, really helps, whether it's a penny or a quarter. Every single cent will go towards his medical bills, his surgery, his stay, and support for his healing time and process.
I want to thank you all who do donate and you can stay updated on his story by seeing my posts on Facebook. It's the easiest way to communicate to family and friends and his friends.
My family and I thank you for everything you guys have done. It really does take a village and we appreciate you so much!
Much love,
Dimarucut and Ocampo family
