Sebastian was a happy go lucky baby and loved being independent.
At 10.5 months Sebastian caught pneumococcal, leading to Sepsis and then ultimately meningoencephalitis.
This was a terrifying experience for us as first time parents.
Sebastian spent 11 days incubated at St George’s Hospital in 2020, and at one point we were told he might not wake up - every parents nightmare !
Sebastian woke up after 11 days and was diagnosed as having a brain injury. Sebastian was left with trauma across most parts of his brain , and the Doctors couldn’t tell us how his life would be.
Sebastian lost everything he had learned, he couldn’t eat, talk, hold his own head, sit up.
Sebastian is now 2 and has been receiving physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language from the NHS and has made some progress.
Sebastian still cannot sit unaided, walk or talk (babbling and shouting is still there :) )
We have the opportunity for Sebastian to go to The Children’s Trust in our area. The Children’s Trust are a specialist rehabilitation centre for Children with Brain Injury and can provide Sebastian with intensive therapy which the NHS cannot offer.
The cost of which could be in the region of £10,000, which we just don’t have spare.
We are proud people and it is breaking our heart doing this, but we need to do what is best for our son and are asking if people can spare anything to help our son get the intensive rehabilitation he deserves!
