Help Sean with Neurofibramatosis brain tumors.
Hello, My name is Jason Gilbertson. I am raising money for my brother, Sean Gilbertson (35), who is diagnosed with Neurofibramatosis (NF2).
NF2 is a rare genetic disease that causes tumors on the nerves of the brain and spine. He has two large Acoustic Neuromas (tumors) and the audio nerve that transmit sound from the inner ear to the brain. One side he has become completely deaf and there is a fifty percent loss on the other side. Doctors have found seven other tumors in his body, four being in the brain. One each in the sternum, arm, and thigh. Unfortunately, if left untreated, it can affect other cranial nerves and/or putting pressure on the brain stem. Causing other issues, including paralysis.
The doctors primary focus has been to stop the rapid growth of the tumors. Preventing further damage and preserving what hearing is left. He is currently taking Chemotherapy, which is not helping. This has also inflamed his Rheaumatoid Arthritis, swelling all his joints in his body and making it hard to move. Future treatment involves multiple surgeries and possible radiation. The largest tumor being removed, with hopes of getting the others under control. Due to the size of the largest two if/when removed the audio nerve is unable preserved. During this process the facial nerve at least on one side will also be damaged causing facial paralysis similar to stroke victim.
Throughout all this he still continues to work 6 days a week. Only financially able to take time off when going to necessary appointments. He worries with thoughts of the future and his ability to work. Outrageous insurance rates, medical bills, and car breaking down all the time. Going deaf suddenly, the last thing you hear is to count back from 100. As this was not enough, being told you are going to be sued afterwards, brain surgery costing like 750k each. The stress and anxiety have an effect on his daily life.
It is hard to watch anyone go through times like this, especially a loved one. You would like to say you understand what they are going through. There is no way you can. I wish I could tell him it will be ok. All we can do is be hopeful for the best outcome possible. Hoping for technology to come up with some new advancements sooner than later.
All donations are greatly appreciated. Every bit helps him get through these trying times. If you're unable to give it is completely understandable, please share. Thank you for your time.
