Help Sean Smith with his sons education expenses

Donation protected
Help raise money for education expenses for Sean and Julie Smith's twin boys.

Sean Smith, a pilot of more than 20 years for American Airlines and American Eagle/Envoy, died from complications of COVID-19 on June 11. He was 53. Sean was born May 23, 1968, in Washington, D.C., and fell in love with airplanes as a boy, earning his private pilot's license before his 18th birthday. He graduated in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He went on to work as a flight instructor in Punta Gorda and Venice, Fla., before moving to Frisco, Texas, in 2000 to first work for American Eagle. He started flying the Saab turboprop out of DFW Airport before flying the Airbus A321 for American. DFW was Sean's primary base, but he also was based in New York, Charlotte and most recently, Miami.

Sean loved spending time with his family, playing poker and board games, traveling and watching his identical twin 21-year-old sons, Allen and Jacob, play collegiate baseball. A jack of all trades, Sean enjoyed building furniture, repairing automobiles and tinkering with projects in his garage.

Besides his sons, Sean is survived by his wife of 25 years, Julie; mother Mary Frances Botta and her husband, Kenneth; and father Bruce Smith and his wife, Jackie, all of Frisco, TX.

Any donations will be applied to the college education and expenses for Sean and Julie's sons.
