This fundraiser for Sean Hollis is organized by his partner, Zuzana, on his behalf. All donations will go directly toward his rent (including rent in arrears and bills), living expenses and physical and emotional recovery.
In 2022, Sean suffered a severe cardiac arrest. His heart stopped for over 30 minutes. Hands-on CPR was performed the entire time and nine defibrillator shocks were administered. Sean and Zuzana are incredibly grateful to the EMT responders for not giving up on him.
While CPR was being performed, Sean's brain was only receiving 20 - 25% of oxygen. The fallout from this is severe neurological damage, though as his cardiologist told him, Sean's case is highly unusual, if not miraculous. Almost all cases with this degree of severity and length of oxygen deprivation result in death. The few who survive have to learn to walk and speak again.
In Sean's case, he has been struggling with his physical stamina, his memory and his ability to concentrate and perform many tasks that come as second nature to healthy people.
Sean has tried to keep working in the film industry, but the physical, neurological and emotional toll has left him unable to meet the demands of his job. He now hopes to focus on his art. Mainly his photography, but this health crisis has left him financially devastated.
While he waits for government assistance, Sean needs help covering his overdue rent (going back to Nov. 2025), overdue bills and basic living expenses. The stress of this situation is also taking a huge toll on Sean's state of mind. He's a proud person and it's not easy for him to ask for help. Any sense of pride on Zu's part "has left the building". A contribution, big or small, will make a real difference to our dear friend and colleague who would be the first to help others as you many of you know 1st hand from working with Sean.
*Quick update - sadly, Sean suffered a mild heart attack on Tuesday, April 7th. He is at St. Michaels hospital, waiting for surgery. His prognosis is very good, once the cardiovascular surgeon/s "fix" the blocked artery that caused the heart attack. Unfortunately go fund me won't allow me to share my email or number, in case you would like more up to date information. Sean has his cell phone with him or you can call St. Mikes.
If you are facing financial difficulty yourself, please just share this message with as many colleagues as you can think of.
