Help Sean Recover After a Brain Injury

Donation protected
On September 20th, our lives changed forever. My sister’s son, Sean — our beloved nephew — suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. What followed were days filled with uncertainty, fear, and prayers we never imagined we would have to say.

In the five months since his injury, Sean has undergone four surgeries and faced more challenges than most people face in a lifetime. The road to recovery from a brain injury is long and unpredictable. But if there is one thing we know about Sean, it’s that he is a fighter.

Over the last five months, Sean has made incredible strides. He was strong enough to be weaned off the ventilator. His trach has been removed. And one of the most emotional milestones of all — he is finally able to eat again. Although his feeding tube remains in place as a precaution, Sean is doing well and is rediscovering the joy of tasting food. Every small step forward is a victory.

We continue to stimulate his brain with every activity possible — conversation, music, therapy exercises, familiar voices — anything to encourage healing and connection. Recovery from a traumatic brain injury requires intensive, consistent rehabilitation. The more therapy Sean receives, the greater his chances of meaningful recovery.

Prior to Sean’s accident he lost his job and was enrolled in Medicaid. While insurance is covering some services, the coverage is minimal. Sean is currently in a nursing facility and is limited in the amount of therapy he receives each day. For Sean’s recovery, maximizing therapy is absolutely critical — but any additional therapy must be paid out of pocket.

We are so grateful for everyone who has helped our family with meals, prayers, visits, and support. It has meant more than we can ever express. As we look ahead, the financial reality of ongoing therapy, rehabilitation, and eventually transitioning Sean home is overwhelming.

We have set a goal to help cover:
• Additional physical, occupational, and speech therapy
• Out-of-pocket rehabilitation services not covered by Medicaid
• Specialized cognitive therapy to stimulate brain recovery
• Medical supplies and care needs
• Preparation for Sean’s eventual transition home

Intensive brain injury recovery requires consistent, high-frequency therapy. Every additional session gives Sean a greater chance at meaningful progress. Any funds raised beyond our initial goal will continue to go directly toward Sean’s long-term therapy, rehabilitation, and ongoing care needs as he progresses in his recovery.

Sean has already shown us how strong he is. Now we are asking for help to give him every possible opportunity to continue healing. If you feel led to donate, share, or simply keep Sean in your prayers, we are deeply grateful. Every contribution — no matter the amount — brings him one step closer to recovery. Thank you for standing with Sean and our family during this journey.
