Help Sean in His Mission to Walk Again!
Donation protected
Hello everyone. Recently, my brother-in-law, Sean, had an accident while out boating. Luckily, he was only minutes from the mainland, where he was life flighted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, but the accident did result in 11 fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, a punctured lung, and a spinal cord injury which caused lack of feeling and movement in both of his legs. He was rushed into immediate surgery to have a spinal cord fusion done, with a second surgery several days later to plate his ribs.
It has been one week since the accident, and every day has been a roller coaster for Sean, his wife Nicole, and their friends and family. He spent the first few days in ICU, and was then transferred to a recovery wing. His upper chest area will heal with time, but his leg function is the largest unknown. Based on his injury site, and current abilities to move certain leg muscles or feel touch in his legs and feet; the doctors feel he will be able to walk again! His entire support system is going to help him in reaching that goal.
The next step for Nicole and Sean will be a temporary move to one of the best rehabilitation hospitals in the country, located in Boston. The facility anticipates Sean will be there for 2-3 weeks, with outpatient rehab once he returns home.
If anyone knows Sean, you know that he is going through this with his humor and cheerfulness intact! We're all here to help Sean and Nicole focus on his rehab, which is the most critical thing he can do to help gain his mobility back.
This journey will be a long road, and my hope is to help them with medical expenses for things like the ambulance ride required to get him to Boston ($2,000), Cobra payments for Sean's health insurance until he is able to return to work, Nicole's health insurance (because she was covered under Sean's company policy), and home improvements for when he will return home to aid in his recovery. Any help you can provide would be appreciated beyond words, even if it just means sharing the fundraiser link to as many people as possible. Sean brings such a positive, smiling face and personality to everyone he knows (even if he's only just met them!), and we want him to feel the same love and support in return.
Thank you so much!
