On November 7th, Sean was struck by a car while walking home in Clearwater, Florida. The impact left him with multiple injuries; two broken ribs, a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg that required rods to stabilize, and a shattered kneecap in his right leg that now has a plate holding it together. Sean is now facing a long and difficult recovery. Doctors expect months of physical therapy and he may require an in-home aide to help him with daily care.

Sean has always been a hard worker who walks to and from his job every day because he does not have a car. But because he doesn’t own a vehicle, he doesn’t have car insurance. This means he has no personal injury protection to help with medical expenses. To make matters worse, Florida does not require drivers to have bodily injury coverage. Right now, Sean has no way to work and very limited mobility. He has two cats whom he loves tremendously, and caring for them is extremely important to him. He was actually walking home from the pet store with a bag of food for them when he was hit. Now he is unable to provide even the basics like food and litter without help.

My family is doing everything they can. His mom and brother are traveling to Florida to be with him, but they can only stay until Tuesday, November 25th. After that, Sean will be on his own right as the holiday season begins. This is an especially hard time of year for anyone to face such hardship alone.
