Help Sean Get a Liver Transplant

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Dana. I'm soon to be 33 years old and I'm trying to help get my husband the liver transplant that he needs.

My husband, Sean (currently 33), needs a liver transplant. He has a chronic illness called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). He's been on the liver transplant list for over a year and we are doing a lot of outreach in hopes of finding a living donor for him soon.

We always knew that a liver transplant would be in Sean's future. His illness, PSC, is a chronic disease in which the bile ducts inside and outside the liver become inflamed and scarred, and eventually narrowed or blocked. When this happens, bile builds up in the liver and causes liver damage. This being the case we were told a liver transplant would be necessary in 15-20 years of the diagnosis. We are now almost 6 years away from the diagnosis and have already been on the liver transplant list for over a year.

The amazing news is, that after the transplant Sean could essentially be "cured" of his PSC. There is no actual cure, but the likelihood of the PSC returning is very low. Woo-hoo!

We just need two things to get past this transplant:
  • a donor match to be found (check out our FB page if you are interested in being a donor or want to help us spread the word to find a match for Sean --> https://www.facebook.com/seanneedsanewliver/)
  • a little financial help to get through the actual transplant and hospital stay

We are beyond blessed that our health insurance will be covering any medical costs Sean has from the transplant, but we need a little help paying for gas, food, lodging, and child care during the time that Sean will be in the hospital. The money we raise will also help cover some of our expenses the first few weeks Sean is back home and needs 24-hour care.

The transplant will take place at a hospital 3.5 hours from where we currently live and Sean will be in the hospital for approximately 3-6 weeks (with weekly appointments for several weeks after being discharged.)

Myself and our beautiful 18-month-old daughter want to be able to stay in the area around the hospital for the duration of Sean's stay there. Our mom's will be helping us with child care while Sean is in the hospital.

This has already been a long journey for our little family and the most difficult part is still to come with the transplant.

Sean quit his job about a year ago to be able to focus on his health. We both think he has been able to stay as healthy as he has been for so long thanks to that decision. (While he was working he would have frequent infections putting him in the hospital for days at a time or longer.) But, it also means that funds are short and we need some help to make it through this transplant.

We are having faith in God's timing and direction and we want to be prepared for when we get the call that Sean has a liver waiting for him.

Thank you for making it to the end of our story and considering helping us! I know times are tough for a lot of people right now. If a monetary gift isn't possible (we understand) we would be extremely grateful for your prayers.

Thank you again!
