Update from Sean
As some of you may know I’ve been in the ICU since July 27 fighting the battle of a lifetime. Unbeknownst to me I have been walking around with a disease that my mom has been battling, Diverticulitis which caused my colon and lower GI to rupture. I was told after a cat scan that I would be on the operating table within 2 hours as it was extreme but then I also tested covid positive, which then gave them caution and decided to keep me in surgical icu prepped for surgery for several days. Fast forward two+ weeks and it’s looks like we’ve managed to save my colon, though I will most likely still need some sort of surgery to deal with abscess etc… nasty stuff. But now my temperature isn’t shooting up to 103.5 every night and my white blood cell count doesn’t look like a high score anymore, I’m finally stabilized and working on getting better. I wasn’t allowed liquids for almost two weeks and am hoping maybe to be able to get somewhere closer to home where my insurance can be more effective in my recovery. This is going to be a battle that stretches for a few months at the least and I’ve already had to postpone my event, the Tournament of Terps for a month or two (dates TBD after I’m released from the hospital) I just wanted to take a clear headed and coherent moment to thank those people in my life that have shown concern, provided help and support and helped provide me the will to not throw the towel in as it has been ROUGH. Tommy Juliano for taking Wilson in and visiting me nearly every day, even just for a few minutes of companionship and brotherhood, you’ve gone above and beyond and I love you man. Brian Gonzalez a wonderful friend who convinced me to go to the hospital in the first place thru his wisdom and compassion and who actually started a go fund me, something I would never of done on my own. Joe Itza for his daily check ins and concerns, ensuring I wasn’t feeling alone or forgotten. My mother has been amazing and it’s been all I could do to keep her from racing down to Long Island to be by my side. I need her healthy and safe and I just didn’t want to risk her in a covid wing in the icu for hugs and tears, tho truthfully that would of been the best medication I could of gotten. My brother Nick Black who amongst his own personal challenges and responsibilities still took the concern and time to help me navigate this ungodly horrible health system we have. Thanks for all your messages of encouragement, today is the first day that I don’t feel like I’m getting worse and that is a huge W in my books. If you can manage to contribute to my go fund me, that would be amazing as between medical bills and rent, electric and life I am in a unforeseen tight spot that is daunting and life altering. Sorry for the long winded approach, I’ve been denying the Oxy pills they’ve been pumping me with and it’s nice to be coherent (somewhat) for more than 5 mins. I haven’t consumed cannabis since July 23 or so, solid food since the 25th and was not allowed liquids for 2 weeks. Talk about a tolerance reset! Love to you all and please, kiss and hug those people you love and appreciate. ✌all money will through sean’s mom - Sharon Ohara
