Help SEA Bring Native Daughter Home as Educator

Donation protected
For 35 years, the St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA) has committed to promoting the conservation of environmental resources, providing education and advocating for environmentally responsible actions that benefit St. Croix.  Our education programs are a critical contribution to the work of protecting St. Croix's precious ecosystems.  We now have a golden opportunity to bring a nationally recognized environmental educator and St. Croix native on our team.

Growing up on the island of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, Olivia Walton had the joy of being surrounded by many wonders of the natural world. By the age of 13, she was spending most of her free time running around barefoot or 60 feet below the ocean's surface scuba diving.  Upon learning that her opportunities to connect with the environment weren't afforded to many other children, Olivia created education programs to partner with schools and organizations in underserved areas, providing students with engaging environmentally-focused field trips within their community while celebrating diverse local conservation heroes.

Olivia believes that for there to be a sustainable future, the adults of tomorrow must embrace protecting the Earth today.  We do not currently live in a world where there is equitable access to the educational opportunities which encourage this, especially for the youth that will be most affected by an unsustainable future.  Therefore her mission as an educator is to foster a passion for celebrating and protecting the natural world through interdisciplinary, exploratory, and inspirational opportunities for kids of all ages and backgrounds, particularly the most underrepresented and at-risk members of our global community.  She hopes to bring representative and culturally relevant environmental education to communities facing systemic obstacles.

Having left St. Croix to pursue educational opportunities, Olivia is excited to come back and share what she has learned as an environmental educator with SEA.  You can help us bring Olivia home to start her work with us this summer.  SEA believes in strengthening our community by building networks that support our youth to not only gain expertise but have a place to put their knowledge to use for our local community.  Your support is critical towards enabling St. Croix's native sons and daughters like Olivia to feel welcomed and valued back home.

Specifically, SEA is looking for the following financial support to assist with Olivia's moving expenses:
$300 for airline travel
$2,100 for shipping/mailing items
$2,000 for move-in costs (1st month's rent + security deposit)
$200 for basic house supplies
$400 for a laptop

Optionally, SEA would happily accept the following donated items:
-airline miles
-suitcases
-basic home items (sheets, towels, kitchen items, cleaning supplies, etc.)
-grocery gift cards
-a vehicle
-a laptop

Will you help us make SEA's education work stronger?  With a team of mostly volunteers and contractors we reach over 2,000 community members each year.  Can you imagine what our impact will be with Olivia on our team?  The future looks brighter and together we are protecting and preserving St. Croix.
