Scrappy's Fundraiser for a New Fur-ever Home- UPDATE

MEDICAL NEEDS: Unfortunately, we just learned that Scrappy has heartworm. The vet is working up some different treatment options…because Scrappy is a senior gentleman, we have to be sure that he can physically handle treatment. Heartworm treatment is extremely costly. Treatments can cost up to $500 per injection and 3-5 infections are usually necessary. He has also been diagnosed with demodectic mange. Demodectic mange is a skin condition caused by mites, microscopic parasites that infest the skin and hair follicles, causing discomfort and sometimes secondary bacterial infections. Treating mange requires medications to kill the mites and alleviate symptoms. 

About Scrappy:

Meet Scrappy! He is about 13 years old and has lived his entire life outdoors in our neighborhood in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Two years ago, Scrappy lost his brother, who was his lifelong companion, and now, due to many things beyond his control, he lives a very solitary life outside and lacks the care and attention a senior dog needs.

Scrappy's Owner Can No Longer Care for Him:

Due to significant health issues, Scrappy's owner can no longer give him adequate care. We reached out to our local resources for animals several times, and due to overcrowding and other matters regarding the situation, they have been unable to help.

Surrendering Scrappy's care to me was the best option to ensure he gets everything he needs. Luckily, the owner has agreed to let me move him into our home where I can give him the attention he needs. I want to do everything I can to help make Scrappy as comfortable as possible and give him the love and attention he deserves.

How Will Funds Be Used?

Please consider donating any amount. Scrappy’s vet costs have already exceeded $850, which has depleted the funds originally raised. If you would like to contribute something to help Scrappy, all funds collected will be used to pay for his vet visits, heartworm treatments, flea, tick, and mange treatment, and his food.
