I didn't think it could happen to me, but it did. I am 62 years old and I have a new hero.

 

He is my remarkable nephew, Scotty Pope.

 

Scott has been in a wheelchair for a number of years since he suffered paralyzing injuries when hit by a car while on a bicycle.

He's been an inspiration ever since. Scott has endured many hardships throughout his life yet has overcome so many obstacles along the way. Scott has never given up and recently took up racing in half marathons.  He has successfully completed 3 challenging marathons! On his second race, he raised money for the fight against cancer.

 

Scotty competes with able bodied athletes and is a true model of motivation and influence among fellow racers. I witnessed Scotty in action and was amazed how he successfully completed the race.

As he crossed the finish line, multiple racers and spectators came up tp Scott and told him how inspirational he was to them. Scott is 54 years old, paralyzed and using a regular wheelchair to conquer such a feat.

 

A word about Scotty … 

He is one of the most humble and kind human beings you'd ever want to know. He is a loving husband, and just became a grandpa to his adopted granddaughter, River, this year. He dedicates each race to a young friend and fan, named Ivan, (pictured above in the title) who saw Scotty do his first half marathon and immediately became motivated and inspired. Scotty has that effect on people, young and old alike.

 

When I saw Scotty at this race, I knew I just had to do something to support him. I learned that there is a special wheelchair that will help Scotty.

Can you imagine even doing a half marathon? Then, coupled with doing it in a wheelchair? Pushing up San Francisco hills? He is truly unbelievable to watch! Scott has many more races he hopes to accomplish and your donation will greatly impact his efforts.

 

I've created this go fund me page to help Scott get a wheelchair for racing. The basic racing chair costs between $3500 to $4000. I believe that if we all come together and support Scotty, we can change his life.

This would mean the world to me to help Scotty who struggles daily with pain and the challenges to just live his life.
