Hi everyone. I can’t believe I’m even writing this right now, but my dad, Scotty, has been in the hospital for the last three weeks and his condition is now critical. He has been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, Silicosis, along with other serious complications, and his condition has progressed to the point where he requires high-flow oxygen just to breathe. Doctors have told us that my dad will need a lung transplant to survive. We are working to get him transferred to Baylor, where the transplant team is prepared to evaluate and treat him. While he does have insurance through his work, the reality of transplant care is overwhelming, and we are being asked to show financial support for the many costs that come with this process. To be completely honest, we don’t know what to do next. My mom and I are scared, exhausted, and trying to move as fast as possible while holding onto hope. We have to get him over to Baylor.
This is the dad that bought me a fishing pole instead of a Barbie doll, and a BMX bike instead of ballet slippers. He taught me what strength truly is at a very young age, and I don’t know what to do else right now but to ask my community for help. The funds raised will help cover the overwhelming costs associated with transplant care, including travel to Baylor, temporary housing, and lifelong medications. There are many expenses not covered by insurance, and we are being asked to show financial support for the process. We are unsure of all the costs that come with a lung transplant, but know that every donation will help Scotty get the care he needs.
Any donation — no matter the amount, even a hug — helps our family move forward and gives my dad and my mom’s husband of 33 years a fighting chance. If you can please share my dad’s story, or if you have any information on what we can do, please reach out. Thank you for taking the time to read, and please tell your dad you love him today.
