Help Scott & Terri with medical & travel expenses
My name is Chris , I had the privilege to work with Scott every day for 6 years on our division in a NYSDOCCS facility. Scott is not just a CO, he’s a son, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. On Memorial Day last year he had a massive heart attack, had to be resuscitated, and inevitably have open heart surgery to fix multiple blockages and a blood clot in his heart. It was a stressful night when his wife told us “The doctor said any family that can get here with in an hour, needs to now”. If you know Scott he’s a stubborn bastard (only way to describe him). He pulled through but his heart did not, he has had multiple cardiac cath procedures and a defibrillator/pacemaker implanted. His heart is now functioning at less than 30% and because of the continuing decline his kidneys have begun to shut down. Scott and Terri will be traveling to NYC where he will have an LVAD connected to his heart, to help stabilize him as he awaits a kidney and heart transplant. They will be in NYC for at least 2 months with the first month Scott being hospitalized after the LVAD surgery. They will have to stay in NYC for at least another month after Scott is discharged and the hospital is helping them find a short term lease as he will have multiple follow up appointments with multiple doctors.
Scott was medically terminated this year from the department and lost his health insurance. The medical expenses are unknown at this time, the short term lease per the hospital could be anywhere from $2000-$4000/mo. Please help our brother in blue. All of the things Scott has gone through medically he said the hardest thing he has done is turn in his badge.
