A Letter to Our Visitors and Supporters:
In lieu of flowers.
This Go Fund Me page is a fundraiser started by the Penney family, in honor of Scott Penney. Raised funds will be donated to CAMH-NL and also for grief counselling for family members. Scott was hard working and well known with a great career and retirement just within reach. Scott passed away in March 2021 and left so many that loved him to pick up the pieces. Brought on by a recent traumatic event Scott took his own life and it was a shock to the family and his community because very few knew he was struggling.
Recognizing the signs of depression is very important, wether it’s a family member, friend or coworker. Reaching out to them with simple gestures is so important.
Don’t wait to intervene if you see changes in personality, you may be preventing something more tragic.
We encourage all visitors and supporters of Scott’s Fundraiser to continue to have conversations about mental health and depression even after the fundraiser is over. If donating is something you cannot afford to do, there are many other ways to help bring mental health into the open and some key points that should be remembered:
Reach out and check in on loved ones
Know where you can find resources and have a plan in case you need help
Make a list of who you can talk to and confide in when you have bad days
Talk to your doctor if you are struggling and come up with a plan together
seek out free resources online to learn and understand mental health better
Find a self-care routine that works for you
Practice self-care in healthy ways and not by abusing substances or food or certain practices to provide short-term relief
Try to keep yourself in a healthy routine to better manage emotional ups and down
Please remember to be kind to yourself
Talk to yourself how you would talk to someone you love
Don’t always believe the things your mind tells you
You are worthy of life and love
It’s okay if sometimes you do not understand what is going on even in your own mind.
It’s okay not to be okay.
Thank you for visiting our website. Lots of love,
