On July 26th, my husband, Scott Ovnicek, suffered a massive stroke that nearly took his life. One moment he was a strong, hardworking concrete finisher—just 48 years old—and the next, he was in the ICU, fighting to survive. Doctors had to perform emergency brain surgery to relieve pressure and remove a clot. He spent two agonizing weeks in intensive care, and while he pulled through, the man we love is now facing a long, uncertain road to recovery.

Scott has lost all use of the left side of his body. He can’t walk, can’t feed himself, and needs help with even the simplest tasks. He’ll require months—possibly years—of rehabilitation, physical therapy, and constant care. We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know this: we will fight for him with everything we have.

We are a small family of three—Scott, myself, and our 17-year-old daughter, Aries, who is about to begin her senior year of high school. When this happened, we were living in hotels, waiting for an apartment that wasn’t ready. After the stroke, Aries and I stayed in a motel near the hospital until the money ran out. Now we’re in the spare room of some generous friends, trying to hold things together.

Scott was our sole provider. With him unable to work, our financial situation has collapsed. We urgently need help with:

️ Lost income and daily living expenses

Gas and phone bills to stay mobile and connected

Medical bills, equipment, and long-term care

Hiring help to move—if our apartment ever becomes available

❤️ Support so I can stay by Scott’s side during these fragile early days

I’m not working right now because Scott needs me. He’s scared, confused, and vulnerable—and I refuse to leave him alone in this. I will find work when I can, but right now, our survival depends on the kindness of others.

If you’ve ever loved someone so deeply that you’d give up everything to protect them, you understand what we’re going through. We are clinging to hope, to each other, and to the belief that Scott’s story isn’t over—it’s just beginning a new chapter.

If you can donate, share, or send a message of support, you’re helping us write that chapter. You’re giving Scott a chance to heal, and giving our family the strength to keep going.
