Help Scott Martin Overcome Health Challenges

Donation protected
Scott Martin has served his community as a counselor for troubled youth and adults for 30 years. In 2021, a tragedy completely interrupted his life with what started out as the need for back surgery that failed, causing what has now been 4 years of traveling back and forth and a lot of pain. Eventually, after two attempts to avoid drastic surgery, surgeons in Plano had no choice left but to fuse the vertebrae. That was only the beginning of what has been physically and no doubt emotionally challenging for him.

One morning while getting ready for work, Scott was in the shower, reached up to adjust the shower head, and slipped on something, falling backwards onto the floor. That fall led to tearing of both upper shoulder muscles, bicep muscles, biceps tendons, and rotator cuffs. Since that fall, Scott has had 12 surgeries to repair or replace the tendons and muscles in the shoulders and arms, only to discover that he has an unknown type of muscle deterioration disease, which has led to numerous trips to Plano/Dallas/Allen only to find out the repairs would not hold as the tissue was too thin.

It was during CT scans that one of the doctors noticed tissue in his left lung that she was very concerned about, and the team decided it had to be removed to make sure it was not cancer. They removed the lower left lobe of his lung and had to send it to 9 clinics to try to identify the tissues, but they never did other than it was an unknown, never-seen tissue. In order to buy some time and relief, a surgeon in Allen had to put a balloon in Scott's shoulder to keep it stable because all of the anchors holding the muscles and tendons to the bone had ripped out. Scott has also now had 13 spinal procedures and two different spinal stimulators.

Scott is now scheduled to do a second reverse shoulder replacement and reattach the tendons and muscles again. They are also torn and will require surgery to put them back together. He will then have 5 follow-up appointments. The first medical appointment of that week is at the hospital.

I am asking my family, friends, and all of those in his life to first pray for the team of doctors and surgeons who will be treating him and to please keep Scott safe during the surgeries. I am personally asking you to consider the enormous financial burden he and his family have faced the past four years with travel, lodging, meals, co-pays, deductibles, fees, fuel, and many unexpected expenses. He has exhausted all of his savings and needs funding in order to complete his remaining two surgeries.
